Abstract

The increasing volume of household waste has become a major environmental challenge in urban areas. Cimahi City continues to rely on the Sarimukti Regional Landfill, highlighting the need to reduce waste generation from the household level. This community service program aimed to improve residents’ knowledge and practical skills in processing household organic waste through the Takakura composting method. The program was conducted for residents of RT 02/RW 09, Leuwigajah Village, South Cimahi District, Cimahi City. The implementation stages included preparation, educational sessions, demonstrations of Takakura composter preparation, hands-on practice, mentoring, and evaluation. The Takakura method was chosen because it is simple, practical for household-scale application, and capable of producing compost without unpleasant odors. This program also complements a previous community service activity on small-scale waste incinerator technology, thereby supporting a more integrated system for managing organic and inorganic household waste. Through this activity, residents are expected to process organic waste independently, reduce the volume of waste sent to landfills, and strengthen environmental awareness toward sustainable waste management.
